A delightful and comforting dessert featuring a flaky crust and a rich, sweet filling, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water
  • 2 cups fresh fruit or sweet filling of choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough comes together.
  3. Press the dough into a pie dish evenly and trim the edges.
  4. Combine the fruit and vanilla in a mixing bowl; stir well.
  5. Pour the filling into the crust and smooth the top.
  6. Brush edges with the beaten egg.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45-60 minutes until golden brown and filling is set.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Avoid overworking the dough to keep the crust flaky. Taste the filling before pouring and adjust sweetness if needed.
